The 1936 building was designed by Bennet and Bidwell whose art deco work characterises much of the Conservation Area. Originally a one screen cinema, it was extended in 1996 and 2008 to offer four screens, and in 2012 was featured as a filming location for Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg's 'The World's End'.

Design
Building on our robust decarbonisation methodology, we integrated best practice from across the industry, including The Theatre Green Book, Historic England's Adapting Historic Buildings for Energy and Carbon Efficiency as well as publications from Historic Environment, ACAN and BSI.
To understand the building's carbon profile we assessed fabric heat loss, existing M&E equipment and general energy consumption. From this, we built a phased proposal of interventions that would increase energy efficiency, enhance comfort and lower energy bills without sacrificing the historical fabric of the building.
