Sam joined Architype’s Edinburgh studio in summer 2021 and has diverse experience ranging from education, refurbishment and heritage work to private residential and specialised adaptations. Sam is passionate about equality and diversity representation, as well as an active mental wellbeing advocate, aiming to thread these interests throughout all elements of her practice.

With Architype, Sam is part of the team delivering three Passivhaus primary schools in Edinburgh and other projects within the education sector. Sam has also worked on various retrofit and EnerPHit – the Passivhaus standard for retrofit – feasibility studies and projects in Scotland.

Education

Sam completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Northumbria University before attending Newcastle University completing her Part 3 and qualifying as an architect in 2018. Sam spent four years working in the North East of England before moving to Edinburgh in 2021.

Having completed the Passivhaus Bitesize course, Sam has been able to strengthen her understanding of environmental principles. As a growing climate activist, Sam is always hunting for more ways to make our buildings and lifestyles more sustainable. Sam is particularly interested in promoting holistic design solutions, which positively impact the health and wellbeing of occupants of these spaces.
