Scott McAulay

Regenerative Design and Infrastructures Specialist
BArch (Hons) DipArch

Scott joined Architype as a Part 2 architectural assistant in 2021, where he has contributed to a culture of continuous improvement in climate literacy and education. With Architype, Scott’s focus has been on embodied carbon analysis, sustainability advice and climate action. He was recently promoted to the role of Regenerative Design and Infrastructures Specialist which supports the delivery of Circular Economy and Regenerative Design projects at scale and provides regenerative design, carbon, circular economy and material expertise to the practice and to clients. Their interests in architecture lie in compassionate design and unlocking opportunities within it to support a Just Transition more widely.

Education

Scott studied at the University of Strathclyde, starting his final year with an international exchange at the University of Dalhousie in Nova Scotia before completing his studies in 2019 in Scotland. While studying, Scott focused on healthy, low carbon materials - taking courses outside of university on green building technologies and learning practically as a volunteer on hempcrete and straw bale building sites. In 2022 Scott attained a diploma in Retrofit Co-ordination and Risk Management from the Retrofit Academy CIC.

Climate Action

Scott has coordinated the Anthropocene Architecture School since 2019’s Architecture Fringe and has brought together thousands of students, educators and built environment professionals to learn about responding to the climate emergency and cultivate their agency. Early impacts of this work placed him in the RIBAJ Rising Stars cohort of 2020, and he has since featured in architectural press internationally. Scott has taught about climate literacy and the intersection of architecture and the climate crisis at universities across the U.K, mainland Europe and Turtle Island. He co-led a studio during 2021's School of Re-Construction and in 2023 undertook a residency during Architecture is Climate at Central St Martins and was part of co-creating the Retrofit Reimagined festival across the U.K.
