Architype

Announcing a New Era for Architype

By

Last year Architype celebrated its 30th anniversary and we took this milestone as an opportunity to reflect on our exciting journey from the radical self-build roots of our formative years, to our current successes in Passivhaus. We have grown into an influential practice, with two offices and a staff team of 60, and we are now recognised as amongst the best sustainability architects in Europe.

As part of this reflection, Bob Hayes, having been a successful and founding director of Architype since our inception, decided to step down as director to create the opportunity for a younger management team to take Architype forward into the next 30 years.

From the 1st May 2015, Jonathan Hines, current co-director will assume a new role as overall Architype managing director, ensuring the continuity, direction and promotion of the practice.

We are delighted to announce that joining him on the board will be Ben Humphries, currently Associate Director of the London Office; and Mark Barry, current Associate of the Hereford Office. In their new Director positions, Ben and Mark will take responsibility for managing the London and Hereford Offices respectively, with support of the existing management teams.

Mark Lumley will continue in his current role as Associate Director, and a new Associate Director will be appointed in the London office.

Bob, who has been instrumental in steering Architype from its early beginnings through to its current successful position as one of the industry’s leading sustainable practices, will remain working with Architype as a senior consultant, ensuring that key clients and projects are fully supported, whilst continuing to share the wisdom and expertise he has gained over his long and successful career.

‘I am absolutely delighted that I am leaving the management of Architype in such competent hands, and I’m looking forward to continuing to support the new team in its drive to make Architype even more influential in the world of sustainable design’  – Bob Hayes.

We are passionate about Architype’s purpose to design ‘uplifting, genuinely sustainable architecture’, and the new board has ambitious plans for Architype’s development in the future.

We will maintain our position as a uniquely radical and leading sustainable practice, whilst cultivating a new and relentless focus on enhancing the quality of Architype’s design.

We plan to grow in size and service our clients better by opening new offices in other parts of the UK to complement our current offices in London and Hereford. We have ambition to expand into new sectors and design larger buildings without losing focus on maintaining our current sector expertise and project size.

Utilising the positive knowledge obtained from our research and innovation programme, and the experience gained from our comprehensive monitoring of existing buildings, by 2020 we will achieve our commitment, unique in the industry, to guarantee the performance of our buildings, whilst continuing to deliver highly sustainable buildings at the same or less cost than standard ones.

This will be underpinned by our widely recognised approach of offering clients a highly collaborative service of exceptional quality and value.

‘Mark and Ben bring fantastic new ideas and huge enthusiasm to the board. I relish the opportunity of working with them and the wider Architype team, building on our past achievements to realise our dynamic and ambitious plans for the future’ – Jonathan Hines.

‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to build on the success of this pioneering practice. Having worked closely with the staff in both offices for many years it gives us great confidence in our new roles that we will be working with such a talented and dedicated team’  – Ben Humphries and Mark Barry.
