This housing project for the frail elderly was developed in three phases. The first phase was the construction of five single storey two bedroom houses for the elderly. The sale of these houses would part fund phase two, the conversion and refurbishment of the existing Walsingham Lodge. Phase three involved the refurbishment of fifteen bungalows.

The new houses incorporate:

• Prefabricated timber wall and roof panel construction

• A sustainable and low embodied energy materials specification

• Low energy heating and lighting

The conversion and refurbishment works include improved communal facilities, full meals kitchen and a new lift.

Existing residents moving back after the refurbishment were given a choice of kitchens, bathrooms, flooring and colour schemes.
