Hugh joined Architype in 2017 as a Part 1, then returned in 2019 as a Part 2 architectural assistant. During his training he worked with other environmentally focused practices, gaining experience in newbuild and retrofit private residential, higher education and health sectors.

Whilst working with Architype, Hugh has worked predominantly on Passivhaus schemes: London Docks Secondary School in central London, Ysgol Bro Hyddgen all through school in rural Wales, Agar Grove residential Passivhaus scheme in London, and a number of detailed studies for major house builders to help them improve internal environments and energy efficiency.

Hugh has a sound working knowledge of life cycle carbon analysis, building energy modelling, and thermal bridge modelling.

Education

Hugh undertook Part 1 and Part 2 studies at the University of Bath, graduating In 2017 and 2019 respectively. His thesis projects focused on a community apiary, an urban masterplan for the city of Split in Croatia, the lifecycle carbon impact of midrise residential construction in the UK, and creating a sustainable future for the stone industry in Dalmatia.

Of his thesis projects, the masterplan for Split was presented back to the city of Split as part of public consultation for the 'Split United Masterplan', and the findings from the lifecycle Impact of midrise residential construction in the UK were presented at the Passivhaus Conference in Heidelberg.
