Ben has been part of the senior management team at Architype since 2008 and was made Director of the London office in 2015.

Ben has consistently delivered a wide range of complex community, educational, and public commissions and has led many of Architype’s innovative and award-winning projects including The Enterprise Centre, an exemplary low carbon building for University of East Anglia, Harris Academy Sutton, the UK’s first Passivhaus secondary school and Duxford Paper Store for Imperial War Museums.

As Director, Ben has involvement in all projects across the office at both strategic and delivery stages, and promotes a relentless focus on the design quality of Architype’s output through rigorous reviews and QA. Ben is passionate about sustainable architecture and is keen to enthuse clients about the benefits of Passivhaus, natural materials, reducing embodied carbon and Soft Landings. Ben is Architype’s director trustee for Architype’s Employee Benefit Trust.

Education

Ben studied for both architectural degrees at The University of Newcastle upon Tyne, before completing his professional qualification at London South Bank University. Ben worked for a number of practices in London and Kuala Lumpur before joining Architype in 2000.

Lectures and Board Membership

Ben regularly talks on Architype’s work and approach at conferences in the UK and he is a board member for The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products.
