Architype worked within a PFI consortium to design 272 high quality new student rooms on the main campus of Swansea University. The rooms are arranged in three blocks within a very tight site. Every room has en-suite bathroom facilities and each group of eight rooms share a kitchen / dining room.

The project is one of the first six storey timber frame constructions in the UK and Architype worked closely with TRADA in developing the detailed design.

Other features include:

• Passive ventilation strategy

• High levels of daylighting

• Use of FSC accredited timber throughout

• New pedestrian routes through the campus

The second phase of the contract includes the renovation of three existing twelve storey tower blocks.
