The Singleton Environment Centre in Ashford, Kent, is a dynamic and sustainable building, and a resource for learning about all aspects of nature conservation and biodiversity issues. The project also involves the masterplanning and implementation of accompanying interpretative works, with initiatives proposed for both the building and the surrounding woodland.

The involvement of the community is paramount, and the ongoing work of local volunteers is being promoted and encouraged.

Key features include:

• Low impact roundpole and timber frame construction

• Integrated passive solar design and natural ventilation strategy

• Biomass (woodfuel pellet) heating system

The centre will be a focus for the rapidly expanding Ashford area, highlighting pathways, routes, and woodland walks for the local community and visitors to explore.
