The Making Place is a pioneering initiative to provide specialist teaching of science and technology to children from primary schools throughout the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The building demonstrates an ecological approach to technology providing a rich and stimulating teaching resource. It is designed to minimise its environmental impact and create a healthy internal environment:

• The facility is designed to meet modern curriculum requirements, and incorporates a community learning centre on the same site.

• All paints and stains are non-toxic

• Floor finishes are oak and natural linoleum

• The roof finish is of cedar shingles and grass

UK grown timber is used for the structure and cladding, with the exposed frame, of beams and tree trunk columns, illustrating structural principles to the children.
