Architype were commissioned to undertake this complex refurbishment project after consultation with the DFEE, a process that culminated in ‘The City Learning Centres Design Guide’.

The project is part of the Government’s ‘Excellence in Cities’ initiative, and transforms an existing library hall into an innovative City Learning Centre, providing state of the art computer facilities for schools across two boroughs. Architype worked closely with two specialist lighting consultants and a furniture designer to create unique and exciting spaces including:

• A discovery room

• An interactive learning hall

• A dramatic digital editing ‘pod’

The project won a ‘Best Public Spaces’ award in the 2002 FX Awards.
