Architype is currently working with both Greenwich and Lambeth councils to design and implement an ambitious programme of 26 Children’s Centres across the two boroughs, encompassing schemes for both refurbishment and new build projects.

Children’s Centres are being promoted by the Government to provide a core range of services including early education integrated with childcare, family support and outreach to parents and children, and family health services.

Drawing on experience of both other child-centred buildings and multi-user community provision, Architype has been working with the Local Authorities to achieve the tight timetables and budgets set by the Sure Start unit.

This has involved:

• Contributing to the briefing process

• Assessing a wide portfolio of sites

• Developing designs appropriate to current and future users

• Exploring innovative fast-track construction methods.
