A new Sure Start Children's Centre, nursery and community centre recently completed on a brownfield site in Woolwich. Replacing an existing community centre, the new building is providing a vital community resource in an area that has experienced social difficulties in the past but is now embarking on long-term regeneration.

The ground floor contains the children's centre with a 16 place crèche; a 49 place nursery for 0-4 year-olds, and a community café. The first floor contains public meeting rooms for hire plus a sheltered external terrace.

External & internal colours are bright, vibrant and welcoming to create an uplifting atmosphere for local residents. The building is constructed from timber cassette panels and clad in a mixture of render and larch cladding. Roofs are non-PVC single ply membrane with sedum blankets. Internal finishes include natural flooring and natural paints. Low-energy and user-friendly systems include underfloor heating, low energy lighting, and low volume flush WCs.
