Architype designed this major extension to Bewdley High School in Worcestershire which initially comprised a new centre for performing arts along with eight new classrooms. Due to funding difficulties the performing Arts element was omitted from the contract. The new building comprised:

• A flexible theatre space for 300

• A music room

• Rehearsal spaces and recording studio

• Ancillary spaces including a bar

• Special needs resource area and physiotherapy room

• Bridge link connecting lift in new building to existing school

It is intended for joint use between the school and other local arts groups, including the annual Bewdley festival.

The scheme is designed to rigorous environmental standards and the theatre is naturally ventilated.
