This new scheme will provide a new Children’s Centre, relocated Foundation Stage facilities, upgrading of all the school’s play areas and entrances, and internal refurbishment. The new building will create an exciting new frontage to the school, whilst also creating smaller and more intimate play areas for each age group. A welcoming entrance to the Foundation Stage will be created between the building and the existing mature Oak tree - the Bessemer Oak. The Children’s Centre entrance will be easily recognisable by the brightly coloured entranceway. The intention is to provide a well lit and inviting environment inside the double-height foyer. At night this space will be internally lit and the Bessemer logo will be silhouetted, creating a beacon for users and the local community. A striking feature of the building is the butterfly roof. A green sedum roof will be provided over the majority of the roof area. Along with the proposed soft landscaping, this will enhance and contribute to the bio-diversity of the area.
