The buildings which constitute the National Memorial Arboretum draw on architectural ideas from the past, whilst demonstrating an ecologically sustainable future. They express an intimate relationship with the trees of the Arboretum and the National Forest, being constructed largely of timber from sustainable sources in the UK.

The buildings include:

• A visitor centre with exhibition space

• Multi-use hall and restaurant

• Shop and administration space

• A Chapel of Peace housing a book of remembrance

The buildings are connected by peaceful cloisters, the whole ensemble bordering a court which features ‘War Widows Garden’, and the ‘Garden of the Innocents’.

This court leads out into the Arboretum itself which has avenues, planting and landscape features reflecting on themes of Reconciliation, Remembrance, and the Millennium.
